What do cats need to keep them happy indoors

My son moved from a 2-bedroom condo and cannot keep his cats who grew up together as kittens; I took the cats until I can find a home for them; however, I live in a 1-bedroom condo and my question is what can I do to make the cats feel comfortable in a smaller environment. I thought I would buy a cat tower and scratch towers.

Please advise. Thank you.
