What was wrong with my kitten?

I got a white kitten a while back. He would constantly meow even when receiving attention. It was a very whiny meow. Occasionally he would get runny stool but it would be normal later.

Also his butt seemed to poke out. He didn't grow, I never realized there was anything wrong with him until the last two days I had him. On one day his meow seemed to be an occasional deep pain meow. I wanted to take him to the vet then but it was Christmas eve and no vets would be open until Monday. The next day I woke up and he was laying on the floor. He seemed to have a lower meow I called my mother in and she started petting him, after that he was fine the rest of the day. At night time he began running a fever and meowing very loudly. I woke up and starting petting him. He used to sleep with me all the time under my blankets, so I took him to my bed and he was fine again. After I had fallen asleep again he repeated this action, he didn't make it through the night. But I'm curious as to what was wrong with him. Is it contagious? His mother had a history of giving birth to litters that died but the owner of the mother didn't tell me why.

Hi
Sounds to me like this was a very sick kitten possibly even the runt of the litter.

Also if a cat is allowed to get pregnant over and over again she will become weaker and weaker and her litters will become less and less healthy too. The fact that you say that the poor mother cat kept giving birth to kittens which dies suggests that this is what is happening. This is why it is so important to not let this happen and have cats spayed and neutered before this can happen.

I'm afraid to say, your little kitten may just have been born weak or had genetic problems affecting his health.

I very much doubt that he died from anything contagious.

best wishes kate

What was wrong?

I'm not a vet, but it sounds like his kidneys were weak and failed or he died of peritonitis; poor little guy. I'm sorry for your loss.
I doubt very much what he died of was infectious, but I wish you and he had been fortunate enough to get him to a vet, if only to put him out of his misery.
